North of Egilsstadir, and west of Lagarfoss in eastern Iceland is Kirkjubaejarkirkja Church. This is one of the oldest wooden churches in Iceland. It was built in 1851, and set in a peaceful location with surrounding graveyard. Inside you’ll find the oldest pulpit in the country, dating from the 16th century, and a colourful decor. Visitors are welcome to look around if the church is unlocked, or to attend a service held there.
