Mount Kirkjufell is a free standing mountain on the north shore of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in western Iceland. It stands 463 metres above sea level at its summit. The mountain is considered a relatively easy climb for an experienced mountaineer, and thus proves popular despite a number of fatal accidents in the past. For those without experience, the Kirkjufell provides a scenic backdrop from the ground. You will see why Danish sailors referred to the mountain as the Sugar Top.
