Just to the south of Akureyri is the Kjarnaskogur woods. This is reputedly Iceland’s most visited forest, although it is by no means large. The area also includes a recreation area, with picnic tables, play area, running track and car parking. There are walks and other amenities in the grounds. It is free to enter and open all year, although better in the summer months.
