Johannes Sveinsson Kjarval is probably the most famous artist to come from Iceland. He lived from 1885 to 1972, and was brought up near Bakkagerdi on the farm at Geitavik. In the town’s Fjardabjorg community centre is a small museum dedicated to him, with copies of his works and information about his life. You can see the inspiration the surrounding landscapes had on him. The museum is known as Kjarvalsstofa, and is open from June to August.
