Kleppjįrnsreykir is to the east of Borgarnes. It used to be the site of an institution for mentally handicapped people, but this facility was later transferred elsewhere and the building became an elementary school, built between 1956 and 1960. Here there is also the second largest hot spring in Borgarfjöršur, creating 70.1 liters of hot water per second. There are a few houses, farms, a sports hall and a swimming pool in the area.
