Kollotadyngja is a former volcano to the north Herdubreid Mountain in the Askja region of Iceland’s Interior. This peak stands at 1,180m tall and is 10km from Herdubreid. There is a hut here which can sleep up to 20 people – popular with those who come to hike the area and climb the mountain. There are a number of trails available, but this should only be attempted if you have the proper equipment and experience. The volcano formed in the shape it’s in due to it being non-explosive, giving a gentler shield-like appearance to its peak.
