Kópavogur Art Museum – Gerđarsafn is one of Iceland’s newest art museums; it was opened in 1994. it is also the largest art museum outside Reykjavik, containing 2,500 works. The collection is made up of pieces by numerous different artists which are almost all Icelandic. Every year different displays and collections are shown along with the permanent exhibition. These include Icelandic modern and contemporary art and also international travelling exhibitions held in collaboration with institutes from other countries. The museum is open daily 11am-5pm, and is closed on Mondays.
