Kristskirkja is a Roman Catholic church in the centre of Reykjavik, and is one of only a few non-Lutheran churches in Iceland. Inside the church there is a statue of St Thorlac who is the patron saint of Iceland. The beautiful high altar has a statue of Christ standing on the world above it. This statue is uniquely made of cedar as the artist would not allow any copies of it to be made. Outside the cathedral there is a bust of Bishop Meulenberg, who is claimed to be responsible for the building of the cathedral.
