The Labour Union’s Art Collection was founded in 1961 when entrepreneur Ragnar Jonsson gave the Icelandic Federation of Labour Unions 120 works of art. The aim of the museum is to raise public awareness of the visual arts. The three exhibition halls house approximately 25 exhibitions per year, some of which are arranged by the artist themselves. Exhibitions contain both art and crafts and try to emphasize the variety of contemporary Icelandic Art. The museum is closed on Mondays.
