Just to the south of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, off the Ring Road, is the Landbrot field of pseudocraters. These were formed during the last major eruption of the Laki volcano in 1783. As the lava flowed over the marshland, the steam exploded as it evaporated. This created these mounds which spread over the field, looking like odd barrows. You can wander around them to get a closer look, being careful of the marsh.
