Laugavegur is the oldest and main shopping street in Reykjavik. Interestingly, no matter how cold and snowy the weather is, the pavement are always free of snow and ice because they are heated underground geothermally. The street contains numerous fashion shops selling clothes, designer jewellery, clocks and watches. A fifteen percent VAT reduction is available to foreign visitors from the main designer shops; this is claimed at the airport before leaving for home.
