Founded in 1978, the Living Art Museum is a private institution with a membership of around 200 artists, both Icelandic and International. The museum mainly shows post-1960 Icelandic art and aims to show the latest trends in Icelandic and foreign art. In 2008 the museum celebrates it’s 30th anniversary with a special exhibition and creative lectures and classes to reflect the history of the museum and look towards the future of modern art. The museum houses 6 to 8 exhibitions per year along with performances of dance and drama and workshops.
