Olafsfjordur has become the centre of a tourist trend surrounding the natural phenomena of the Midnight Sun. By climbing the tall headland of Olafsfjardarmuli, or any high ground around the town, at certain times of the year, you are able to see far to the Arctic Circle in the north, and to witness the sun dipping low but never actually setting. Beware that many routes to high ground are hazardous, and often covered for most of the winter. Local advice should be heeded.
