Mount Ingolfsfjall is a steep-sided mountain in southern Iceland, a short journey along the Ring Road from Reykjavik. It stands tall above the town of Selfoss. Ingolfsfjall is a volcanic mountain, layered with lava, which was formed during the last Ice Age. It was originally a headland jutting out into the sea, which was much higher then. Now it is surrounded by the fertile lowlands. Ingolfsfjall is named after Ingolfur Arnarson, who was the first Norwegian settler of Iceland. Legend has it that he is buried at the top of the mountain.
