Mount Vordufell stands out on the landscape near Skalholt in south western Iceland. It stands some 390 metres tall, and from the top you can attain magnificent views all around on a clear day. The hike to the summit is not particularly difficult, and many tourists now make the journey when in the area. Legend has it that a young man once climbed to the summit, attached bird’s wings to his arms, and proceeded to fly across the river, landing in Skalholt. Beware of Vordufell, however, as it stands on one of the most dangerous and active earthquake zones in Iceland!
