The Culture House was built in 1908 originally to house the National Library and National Archives of Iceland. These were opened up to the public in 1909. The building has also been used to house Iceland’s National Museum for several decades. The museum is concerned with Icelandic heritage with many diverse exhibitions. These reflect the trends and changes in society both past and present. The many rooms in the building provide facilities for public meetings, conferences, lectures and special events along with the exhibitions. Regular guided tours are available in several different languages.
