Nipa is the name of a large mountain near Neskaupstašur. The mountain lies between two fjords and rises to a peak of 819 meters. The mountain is made up of basalt layers differing in thickness, the incline going inland. Nipa is at the end of the highest cliffs in Iceland, and boarders Icelands first country park which was opened in 1972. The park includes wild shoreline and an educational trail ideal for visitors wishing to explore the outdoors. The area also is the subject of several Icelandic myths and folk tales.
