Nýibær is a group of historic turf huts close to Holar and its cathedral. They are partially preserved, although do not have any furnishings on display. The huts were built in the mid-1800s and were used as dwelling places until 1945. They are representative of the Icelandic architecture of the region. A leaflet is available from the cathedral which leads you on a trail to the huts, and gives a bit of background information on them. There is no entrance fee, although you may not be able to enter the buildings for most of the year.
