Papos is the name of the first trading post in the district of East Skaftafell near Höfn. The post was established in 1861 and used exclusively until another more permanent post became established in Höfn in 1897. The Höfn post is still used nowadays. The houses of Papos were then used for the first boarding school in the area after 1897. Close to this site are some ancient ruins which are thought to be the remains from the settlement of Irish hermits who lived in the country until the start of the Norse settlement.
