Pįskahellir, or Easter Cave, is located close to the town of Neskaupstašur on the shoreline. From the town there is a staircase which takes visitors to the cave in order to explore it properly. Pįskahellir was created by the beating waves of the sea which carved out the opening that is large enough to admit people inside. Geology enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to the cave as inside one can see holes made by trees which were covered in lave 12 million years ago. There are also other lava structures and numberous types of crystals. Local residents come to the cave on Easter morning to watch the sunlight dance on the waves and celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
