Petursey is a strange free standing hill in the south of Iceland in Solheimasandur plain, near the sea. The hill stands 275 metres tall and has excellent views from the summit. Petursey has an interesting history – geologists will notice signs of higher sea levels along its edges, and the cap of a volcanic crater nearby. Also, in the 13th century Petursey was occupied by a large army, who used it as a defensive position.
