Žingeyri was once one of the main sea trading stations in this part of Iceland – the Westfjords. Today it is a quiet town with little of note other than the excellent scenery and remote location. The town has the usual eating and sleeping amenities. There’s also a swimming pool and tourist information office. Around the town there are a number of hiking routes, including one to the top of Sandfell, which rises to 367m behind the town. Pingeyri is served by public transport.
