Reyðarfjörður is a town in the east of Iceland. It lies at the head of the largest fjord in Iceland, also called Reyðarfjörður. At the beginning of the 20th century it was established as a port for trading, and during the second world war was used as an Allied base. The town has a war museum, numerous shops and a controversial Aluminium Plant. Of its 2,300 residents, 1,395 are Polish making it the town with the highest concentration of foreign workers in Iceland. The town has a large pond in which salmon are released for fishing, with a valid license. The surrounding area has beautiful scenery.
