Reykholt is an interesting historical area in the west of Iceland. It is said to have been inhabited since the tenth century, but now only has 60 inhabitants in the village. There is a church, built in the eleventh century which is a popular place to visit. The village is of interest to archeologists who come to find medieval remains. The village covenant is wel preserved, and is one of the oldest documents written in old Norse in the whole of Iceland. Snorri Sturluson (1176-1241) live in Reykhold, and wrote most of his books there. The village also has an institution for medieval studies and a building housing copies from the National and University Library of Iceland.
