The Reykjavik Art Museum is housed in three different locations in the city. The Asmundarsafn is a museum dedicated solely to the work of Asmundur Sveinsson and is a retrospective exhibition of all the artist’s major works. His latest exhibition, ‘The Shape of a Line’ opened in March 2007. The museum is housed in the former house of Sveinsson, who was born in 1893 and died in 1982. He designed some of the house himself. His work mainly consisted of sculptures, and a popular theme of his was men and women at work, although his later pieces became more abstract. There is a nearby sculpture garden which is also open to the public.
