Reykjavik Botanical Gardens opened in August 1961 and is a must see for visitors to Reykjavik who are interested in botany. The gardens house a large selection of plants from Iceland and abroad, all clearly marked with their Icelandic and Latin names. The gardens contain walking trails and water features, greenhouses, a café and children’s play area. The gardens also carry out local research into plants and the likelihood of their survival in the Icelandic climate. The gardens are open all year, but are at their best in summer.
