If you’re into fishing, then the River Laxa is one of the best in Iceland for salmon fishing. Translated, its name means Salmon River. The river flows across the remote wilderness towards Lake Myvatn, near Reykjahlid. Beware, however, that fishing here comes with a price, and it’s not cheap. Permits are available from Reykjahlid. For those who don’t want to fish, the river provides a scenic backdrop to the area, and has many small islands in the stream as it approaches the lake. There are plenty of walking routes in the area.
