Sćnautasel is in the town of Egilsstađir and is one of its most popular attractions. Sćnautasel was built in 1843 once was a turf farmhouse which was uninhabited after 1943 and left to gradually decay. Now Sćnautasel has been restored to its original state by members of the local community and is opened in summer to display antiques from the local area. Iceland’s famous Nobel Prize winner, Laxanes, once slept in the farmhouse. The farmhouse also has a café for visitors.
