The church near Saurbćr was built to the memory of the composer Hallgrímur Pétursson. He was responsible for 50 Passion Hymns – the most famous religious work to come from Iceland. This church has some wonderful stained glass windows, and is of a significan size. It is a popular place of worship for the locals, and tourists are welcome to visit. The massive Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik is also named after him.
