Seyðisfjörður is a picturesque town situated at the end of a long and rather narrow fjord surrounded by impressive mountains and waterfalls. Seyðisfjörður is well known for its old wooden buildings. The town was established in 1848 by Norwegian fishermen, and fishing and tourism are its major industries today. It was also used as a base for British and American troops during the second world war. Seyðisfjörður also has an arts centre, many museums and the only two cinemas in the East of Iceland.
