Skálanes Nature and Heritage Center was opened in 2006. The purpose of the centre is to conserve the nature and heritage of Seyðisfjörður. The centre also carries out research and offers grants to graduate students to carry out work at the centre. Inside the staff aim to encourage visitors to learn about the connection between nature and culture and how they interrelate. Accommodation can be obtained at the centre for up to 16 people, for a holiday of hiking, education and conservation. Day visitors are also very welcome.
