Skalavik is a cove on the western part of the Isafjordur Bay inlet, which has direct access to the sea. This is a harsh, remote environment, close to the town of Bolungarvik in north western Iceland. Originally small communities of farmers and fishermen lived here, but these have long since disappeared. In 1910 an avalanche killed four people in a farm. A road leads to the cove over the mountain pass from Bolungarvik. Despite the remoteness, it is incredibly scenic.
