Skrudur is a park to the north of Pingeyri in Iceland’s Westfjords. It is in fact Iceland’s oldest botanical gardens, and was founded in 1905 by a local vicar, Rev Sigtryggur Gudlaugsson. It was once a research and teaching facility, but is now open to the public free of charge. You can wander the ornamental gardens and many species of shrubs and trees, and marvel at the views over the fjords.
