Skutustadir is a small village on the southern shore of Lake Myvatn. It is the only other settlement in the area, apart from Reykjahlid. The village is best known today for Skutustadagigar - a pseudocrater which is a protected bird nesting haven. It is surrounded by a walking trail. The village was known in saga times for its famous inhabitant Vigaskuta. The small church in the village is worth stopping at, with its painting of the Last Supper inside. The area is quite picturesque.
