Sólheimajökull is a glacier which snakes towards the southern shore of Iceland close to Skógar. The tongue of the glacier is a popular side trip for visitors in the area, and is in easy reach of the Ring Road. There is a car park a short distance away from the glacier tongue, and it is possible to clamber up onto the ice with extreme care. Various exploration trips venture up onto the glacier with expert guidance. Look out for companies in the towns of the area.
