Stora-Viti is a crater in the Krafla volcanic region of northern Iceland. In its interior is a wonderful lake of turquoise waters. All around it are bubbling mudpots, vents and steaming fissures. It is possible to walk around the entire rim of the crater and take in the fantastic views. The crater was formed during an explosive eruption in 1724. Be careful to stay on the marked paths as this area is still very much active.
