Stystrafoss Waterfall

A lovely part of Kirkjubaejarklaustur village in southern Iceland is the Systrafoss. This is a waterfall running down the cliffs on the western edge of the town. Above the falls is a lake, known as Systravn. This was once reputedly the bathing place for the nuns at the convent from which the town gained its name. It is possible to climb up past the waterfall to see the lake and enjoy the views.
