The Technical Museum of East Iceland opened in the town of Seyðisfjörður in 1984. The museum mainly has displays and information on how technology has changed the local area, especially between the times of 1880 to 1950. Areas that are covered include mechanics, electricity, telephony, communications, commerce and architecture. The exhibitions aim to be informative and interactive. The museum is also used as a research centre and teaching facility for all people. There is also an open-air play area and area for walking.
