The Nordic House was designed by the Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto and opened in 1968. Run by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic House in Reykjavik is a cultural centre for the city. It aims to create and strengthen links between Iceland and other Nordic countries and so organizes a large programme of exhibitions and events relating to Nordic culture. The Nordic House also contains a library which is open to the public, and an information centre which can provide details on the Nordic Region.
