Perlan, or The Pearl, is a massive ten storey building which opened in 1991. It was designed by the well known architect Ingimundur Sveinsson who has been widely praised for this work. The Pearl used geothermally heated water as power for Reykjavik, and is a water storage area. Level 4 of The Pearl has an excellent viewing deck which gives panoramic views over Reykjavik. The very top level contains a restaurant in a revolving glass dome.
