Turf Roofed Church

An old church can be found 3km to the south of the river in Hofsos, at the farm of Gröf. The church dates from the 17th century and has a turf roof, representative of the traditional architecture in northern Iceland. It also has a turf wall surrounding it. In 1953 the church was renovated and re-consecrated, and is still used occasionally. If the door is unlocked, visitors are permitted to enter and look around inside. The farm holds the key.
