Viđmýri is an old chieftain’s residence near Varmahlíđ in north western Iceland. Today the site is home to a wonderful old church, which was built in 1834. The church building has a turf roof, timber walls, and inside features an altar dating from 1616. This is an excellent example of old Icelandic architecture, and one of the best preserved churches of its type. Services are still held here for the local parish, and tourists are welcome to visit between June and August for a small admission fee. The building is owned by the Icelandic National Museum.
