Vöðlavík is a deserted creek that used to be habited by many Icelandic farmers. The road to Vöðlavík is difficult in winter, but easy for most vehicles to pass in summer. The creek displays Iceland’s natural beauty with a broad sandy beach and wildlife such as reindeer living in the surrounding wood. Icelandic mythology tells of how one of the first Christian Icelanders banished a band of trolls from a cave near the creek armed with only a golden cross. The trolls were then turned to stone and can be seen now as jagged rock silhouettes on top of the mountain.
