The farm at Ystafell has an interesting history. It was home to Sigurdur Jonsson, who was an Icelandic parliament member, and founder of the Federation of Co-operative Societies here in 1902. A monument stands here to this fact. The farm sits in the shadow of Mount Kinnarfell. Today it has a small museum open to the public, with displays on the communications theme. It also displays a number of vehicles that have been collected by owners of the farm over the years. You will also learn about an interesting historical grave found here in 1917.
